  1. This report analyzes different policy paths (including both flood-prevention measures and risk-sharing financial provisions) in the presence of major uncertainties regarding flash flood risk in Vienna, Austria.
  2. This paper presents a probabilistic cost-benefit analysis relying on a catastrophe risk model to provide decision makers with a more complete risk analysis of the net benefits of disaster prevention projects.
  3. Safety audit: first step towards making schools safer
  4. The Education Cluster Thematic Group on DRR works closely with a series of other actors active on the themes of school safety and disaster preparedness, including the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR)
  5. This document aims to prompt reflection on what exactly constitutes as a safe school: offering a resistible infrastructure in the event of a disaster or one that will also ensure the child’s right to education in an emergency situation. It is aimed at authorities, teachers, technicians and co-operating institutions working on the issues of risk reduction in the educational sector.
  6. The Disaster Risk Reduction Initiative (DRRI) is an endeavour promoted by DARA with the aim of contributing to improved risk reduction interventions and responses to disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes and floods. The Initiative is based on partnerships with other organisations and experts in the field, and promotes knowledge sharing and dissemination with a specific focus on what works and why.
  7. International Environment and Disaster Management Research Field targets to reduce the gap between knowledge and practice through pro-active field-level, community-based project implementation. The target areas are mainly developing countries in Asia, which have the highest population growth, and high vulnerability, due to different types of natural and man-made disasters. The focus of this research field is to learn lessons from the field experiences through effective environment and disaster related project management. Disaster issues are directly related to environmental degradation, and global climate change. Disasters hit poor people, affecting their lives, properties and livelihoods.
